Michael (Roy) Carter is a full time practicing attorney, residing near Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. Michael has always had a special interest in photography. At the outset that interest was primarily with aerial photography. Over the past several years however his hobby has developed into a passion. Michael currently focuses on portraiture, with a strong emphasis on light and shadow. Through the manipulation of natural or artificial light, his goal is always to "create an image" as opposed to merely "taking a photo". Michael's work reflects his signature style, using simple yet strong, authentic backgrounds that compliment the lighting offered.
For the most part Michael is self-taught, however his formal studies include workshops in the U.S.A., Canada and Europe under such well known photographers as Andrew Eccles, Greg Gorman, Andreas Bitesnich and Ralph Gibson.
